What it covers

Medigap Plan G covers the following:

  • Medicare Part A deductibles, coinsurance, or copay
  • Part A coinsurance or copay for hospice care
  • First three pints of blood when you get bloodwork
  • Coinsurance for care in a skilled nursing facility
  • Medicare Part B coinsurance and copay
  • Medicare Part B excess charges
  • Coverage for emergency healthcare you get when you are outside the U.S. (while not 100%, this will be at least partially covered based on your particular plan’s limits)

What it doesn’t cover

Medigap Plan G does not cover Part B deductibles. This is actually the lone discrepancy between Medigap Plan G and Plan F.

Bottom Line

Medigap Plan G is the most comprehensive level of coverage you can get if you first become eligible for Medicare in 2020.

It should be noted that a high deductible version exists. In the high deductible version, once you pay $2340 for deductibles out-of-pocket (not luding Part B deductibles), you get the Part G coverage.
