What it covers
Medigap Plan F covers the following:
- Medicare Part A deductibles, coinsurance, and copay
- Part A copayment or coinsurance for hospice care
- First three pints of blood when you get bloodwork
- Coinsurance for care in a skilled nursing facility
- Medicare Part B deductibles, coinsurance, copay, and excess charges
- Coverage for emergency healthcare you get when you are outside the U.S. (while not 100%, this will be at least partially covered based on your particular plan’s limits)
What it doesn’t cover
Medigap Plan F covers all categories. This is why it’s been the most popular Medigap Supplement Plan for many years. While it does have a higher premium than other plans such as Medigap Plan N, it is still worthy as an excellent Medigap Supplement Plan.

Bottom Line
Medigap Plan F is popular for a reason. But, there is speculation as to whether it will become defunct in the future. While it may no longer be available for enrollment for those who are newly eligible, those who are already enrolled will continue to have Medigap Plan F’s benefits.
It should be noted that a high deductible version of Medigap Plan F exists. Once you pay $2340 for deductibles out-of-pocket, you get the Plan F coverage.
