What are Special Needs Plans?
Medicare Special Needs Plans (SNPs) are a form of Medicare Advantage, in which the plan is targeted to those who fall under these demographics:
- You have a chronic, potentially deadly disease. Examples include HIV, chronic heart failure, End-Stage Renal Disease, and cancer
- You reside in an institution where you get daily treatment, such as a nursing home
- You qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid
What are Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans?
Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) are a type of SNP. D-SNPs are for those who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid.
Getting a D-SNP requires having Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B first. Joining a D-SNP can be done at no extra cost.
