How does dental, vision, and hearing work with Medicare?

Dental, vision, and hearing services are among the few healthcare services not covered by Original Medicare (Medicare Parts A and B).

Because you cannot get these services covered under Original Medicare, you will have to explore other routes. Here are your choices:

  • Medicare Advantage
  • Get a second form of insurance to go along with your Original Medicare Plan

However, keep in mind that you may receive some coverage for these services if they are necessary to have for an inpatient or outpatient service to take place.

How do I get those forms of coverage?

Medicare Advantage Plans vary based on your network. Some of them will have dental, vision, and hearing coverage. It’s best to contact your provider to determine which specific plans in your area are best suited for you.

To enroll in Medicare Advantage, you’ll need to be enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B. Contact your provider to see the available plans in your area. Not all of them are alike and, therefore, may offer different levels of additional coverage.

Other forms of insurance have different eligibility rules. You will have to find a plan which includes dental, vision, and hearing. If you have health insurance through your employer, then your employer’s health insurance may cover those services.
